February 7th saw members attending Dempster’s talk about electric model system selection and a few members followed the evening on the inaugural live stream on our YouTube channel. Dempster went through the basic rules to follow when considering a power system. What type of model are we powering, what performance do we want to achieve and, what flight duration ?. The answers to these questions lead to selection of the right motor with corresponding speed controller and BEC. A flight battery was also calculated leading to choosing a propeller that draws the correct amount of current without risking heat damage to components. Dempster showed the cost savings of powering a basic model with a 40 size engine compared to a similar power train in electric and answered members questions all on aspects of component selection. An informative and useful evening. Thank you to Dempster and also to Tony for the technical set up and live stream.
